About Me
Sundari (soon-dah-ree, short for Kulasundari) is what most people call me these days. Sundari means “beautiful” in Sanskrit, and it’s how I see and experience life. You might also know me as Erin, which is my given name.
I’m something of a Jill-of-all-trades. I’ve had lots of interests and worked in lots of industries since I was a teenager. At 17, my first job was as a freelance journalist for a local paper, writing front page features on local events. I put myself through college at UC Davis writing features for two regional newspapers. Since then I’ve worked professionally as a bicycle mechanic, bookstore flunkie, admin goddess, chanteuse, improv actor, environmental health advocate, computer programmer, filmmaker, web designer, jewelry designer, editor, lecturer, and best of all, an academic.
For the last five years, I’ve been working on my PhD in Asian & Comparative Studies at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), with a focus on Hinduism and Hindu Tantrism, with particular interest in contemporary communities and the history of women’s religious experience. I’ve been working on the first English translation of several Sanskrit tantras. Now nearing the dissertation phase, I work as a teaching assistant (researcher/lecturer), and academic editor at CIIS, and am actively looking for full-time employment in the academic field.
I offer academic and professional editing services at a reasonable rate. Whether you need help editing a paper for publication, writing a grant proposal, editing a cover letter or resume, I can help you improve and polish your writing skills.
I am also an expert in web marketing and design, with well over a decade of experience in the internet industry. These days I enjoy working primarily with Wordpress for clients large and small. I’m fast, efficient, and creative. It’s a winning combination that keeps my clients happy.
Lately, in addition to intensive study and performance of classical and folk Indian music, my favorite pastime is taking long walks while listening to podcasts of Radio Lab and This American Life. I also enjoy exciting adventures in vegetarian cookery, jewelry design, and yoga.
